Who runs this site

f1-race.ing is run by Tim Biddle, an individual who runs it in his own time. He is the controller of any personal data the site handles. For anything about your data, email privacy@f1-race.ing.

The short version

  • No accounts, no analytics and no cookies.
  • If you enter Pick the Podium, your display name and picks are shown publicly, and we keep a scrambled form of your IP address to limit picks per connection.
  • Our host, Cloudflare, keeps ordinary request logs for up to 7 days.
  • The videos page loads thumbnails from Google, and YouTube’s player loads only when you press play.

What we collect and why

Pick the Podium entries

What
When you submit a pick: the season and race, the display name you chose (up to 24 characters, filtered for abuse), your three driver picks, the random browser ID described below, a scrambled form of your IP address, and the time.
Why
To run the game you chose to enter. Names and picks are shown publicly on the page — everyone’s picks are public — so please don’t use your real full name. The scrambled IP address (a salted, shortened SHA-256 hash, not the address itself) limits each connection to 10 picks per race so the board can’t be flooded. It can still count as personal data.
Lawful basis
Performance of the game you asked to take part in (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)), and legitimate interests (keeping the game fair) for the per-connection limit.
How long
There is no automatic deletion. Picks are kept as the record of each season unless you ask for yours to be removed.

Request logs

What
Like any website, each request reaches our host with your IP address, browser details, the page asked for and the time. Cloudflare Workers Logs records these requests.
Why
To keep the site running and secure, and to diagnose faults.
Lawful basis
Legitimate interests (keeping the site running and secure).
How long
Up to 7 days, then deleted by Cloudflare.

Your local date

What
The “On this day” panel sends your device’s month and day to our server so it shows races held on your date.
Why
To show the right races for your day.
Lawful basis
Legitimate interests (showing the page you asked for).
How long
Not stored beyond the request logs above.

Settings stored in your browser

No cookies are set. The site keeps a few small items in your browser’s local storage instead:

  • theme — Your light, dark or system theme choice.
  • f1podium.name — The display name you typed on Pick the Podium, so you don’t have to type it again.
  • f1podium.token — A random ID created the first time you open Pick the Podium. Unlike the others, this one is sent to us with each pick, so that a resubmission replaces your earlier pick for that race instead of adding a second one.
  • f1podium.pick — Your last submitted pick, so the form shows it when you come back.

These stay on your device and, apart from the Pick the Podium ID, are never sent to us. They are not cookies, and they don’t need your consent because they only remember choices you made or the game you joined. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.

Third parties your browser contacts

Fonts are served from this site, so your browser makes no request to a font service. The data feeds behind the site — Jolpica, OpenF1, MultiViewer, Open-Meteo, YouTube’s video feed and the news feeds — are fetched by our server, so your browser never contacts them.

The one exception is YouTube. On the videos page, thumbnails load from i.ytimg.com, which sends your IP address to Google as soon as the page opens. The video player itself loads from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com only after you press play, and from then on Google’s privacy policy applies. News headlines link to the publishers’ own sites, whose policies apply once you follow a link.

Who processes data for us

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site (on Cloudflare Workers, with the Pick the Podium board in its D1 database), keeps request logs for up to 7 days, and handles email to this domain. Cloudflare may process data in the United States; transfers rely on the UK safeguards Cloudflare offers — the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the ICO’s International Data Transfer Addendum. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or erased, ask for its use to be restricted, and, where it applies, ask for it in a portable form. Email privacy@f1-race.ing — for a Pick the Podium entry, tell us the name and race you used. We reply within one month.

Your right to object. Where we rely on legitimate interests (request logs, the per-connection pick limit, your local date), you have the right to object to that processing at any time. Email privacy@f1-race.ing and we will stop unless we have compelling grounds to continue.

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does with data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. It was last updated on 13 October 2026.
